Riot Games is recruiting new talent to work on a League of Legends MMO, and it appears The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz joins his project. Riot Games has announced that a League of Legends MMO was in development last year and has been somewhat quiet about details ever since.
When the League of Legends MMO was announced by Riot Games VP Greg Street, this announcement was backed up by job postings for the new game. Not much else about the game has been officially announced so it remains to be seen. how the game will play or even look like. Riot Games has branched out a few times since the original MOBA that started it all, including two League of Legends story-driven spinoffs, so an MMO probably isn’t a shocking direction for the franchise.
Recently, the old The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 narrative designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz (via Esports point) announced that he would be joining Riot Games to work on the (so-called League of Legends) MMOs. It’s possible that his role falls into a narrative design or quest capacity. Although he didn’t reveal any more details about the game in his announcement, the fact that he was recruited suggests that Riot Games is looking to create a compelling narrative for its MMO. Tomaszkiewicz worked as a narrative designer on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077and was responsible for much of the quest material in both games, potentially including some weird Witcher 3 side quests.
Great Career Update – I’ve spent the last few months meeting and talking to a number of great people and teams, and now I’m happy to announce that I will be joining @riotgames on their next MMO project. I’m excited and looking forward to this new challenge, stay tuned! pic.twitter.com/9dfKdBCG7B

This hiring should have an impact on League of Legends MMOs. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz has the pedigree of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a game praised for its strong narrative, especially the strength of its side quests. While his other game has had a bit of a tougher road, mostly due to Cyberpunk 2077 lacking in gameplay features and bugs, it also has a strong narrative focus. As a result, Riot Games’ decision to bring in one of CD Projekt Red’s narrative designers for its new MMO speaks to the high-caliber story the company is likely looking to include in the game.
Given that Riot Games is always hiring high-level positions like narrative designers, it’s likely that the League of Legends The release of the MMO is still some time away. However, if they continue to hire talent with solid credits to their names like Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, it’s possible that this new League of Legends trip will be worth the wait.
