Every week, we scour the internet for all things indie MMOs so you don’t have to. This week we have a big round of month-end updates, a successful Kickstarter, someone is going to the Brasil Game Show, and I almost forgot to add website links again, but I remembered it at the last second. There’s a bunch of other stuff too, so let’s stop wasting time and start with this week’s MMO Indie Spotlight.
Are you a fan of reading the patch notes but think the devs still don’t share all the changes they make to their game? Then head to the Travelogue Technical Blog where they detail all the exciting things their coders are working on. Like “Removed Quickbrush” or “Error messages are now printed in bright red”.
Since the last update (5.26), there have been grumblings in the community regarding poor performance in the game. On Tuesday, the developers posted a letter on the Chimeraland Discord apologizing for the rushed deployment and assured the community that they are working on the matter. They provided login rewards for the rest of the week as an apology.
The next big update will be released on June 9. As well as hopefully fixing performance issues, the update will bring the first round of server merges and the addition of dinosaur beasts to the game.
The Cycle: Frontier
The Cycle: Frontier released on June 8. Ahead of the release, Yager shared the first episode of a new video series titled “The cycle: the border in 60 seconds”. The series will cover gameplay basics, and this 89-second video gives a brief look at a typical prospecting campaign.
For anyone struggling with proper definitions and don’t want to waste 10 minutes of their day researching them, forum member Kyleran calls The Cycle: Frontier a “free for all, full loot, PvPvE FPSer with 20-person matches held in 20-minute time blocks, with some added survival aspects. It feels more like a fancier BR/survival hybrid than anything. ” Or, as we like to call it at MMORPG, an MMO.
Novaquark released the third episode of its Ask Aphelia video series this week. This episode covers the Warp Drive LUA API, the future of PvP, and various other topics. If you have a question you would like answered in an upcoming episode, there is a submission form you can fill out.
The migration of Ember Sword assets of Polygon (MATIC) at X immutable is scheduled to begin June 8. If you have assets and you’re not sure what you’re supposed to do, Bright Star Studios has released a practical Guide to explain what you need to do.
The Drifting embers The May State of the Game newsletter has just arrived in my inbox. The main story is the increase in server availability. Servers will now be open from Friday noon CT to Tuesday noon CT. There is also a new area to explore, Redshore Forest.
This week’s build also added Ember Monoliths to the world to help with fast travel. Each area will have a monolith and once discovered they can be used to quickly jump between areas. It’s still a work in progress, so expect a few changes, like charging Ember Essence with each use.
Update 49 went live on Monday, marking the start of Live-1 War 92. The announcement post highlights the new tanks and improved vehicle physics, and you can see all the changes in the full release notes.
Chapter five of the Élysée Council was held on Friday. If you missed the live stream event, you can watch it on the gamigo Twitch channel.
The Genfanade Starter posted on Tuesday. The initial target of $10.00 was reached in just 7 hours. As of this writing, 139 backers have pledged $12,899 with 25 days remaining in the campaign.
Weekly Update 321 was released on Thursday. With no major feature changes, this was a minor update full of bug fixes and quality of life improvements.
Legends of Aria
With the closed beta coming later this month, the final Legends of Aria The Alpha patch went live on Friday. You can find the full patch notes here.
Legacy of the Mist
A new dungeon, Garrun’gol, is now available to players who have reached reputation level 50+. The dungeon contains a series of quests to unlock 6 spells while facing 6 bosses.
Monsters and Memories
Niche Worlds Cult has released its May Developer Update Saturday. This is their first update made in video formso be sure to check it out.
Sunday was patch day for past fate. The patch is full of new features, including the addition of two-handed weapons. You can get a full list of changes in the patch notes.
INSANE took Twitter this week to show off the progress they’ve made with their procedural generation capabilities. Our editor, Christina, has already posted an article about it earlier this week, so no need to rehash it here.
