Riot Games, the company behind League of Legends, has revealed that it will create its own massively multiplayer online game (MMO), following the huge boom in this sector of the gaming industry.
LoL has a seismic universe and lore behind it, which has grown steadily since the announcements of other Riot titles in recent years.
The developers have already introduced us to the card game ‘Legends of Runeterra’, the auto battler ‘TFT’, the first person shooter (FPS) Valorantas well as a mobile version of Summoner’s Wild Rift and their latest game “Ruined King”.
Riot has since decided to set foot in the world of MMOs as Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft – except that it will be defined in the LoL universe.
Here’s everything you need to know about the League of Legends MMO:
Is there a release date for League of Legends MMO?
Riot Games has yet to announce a specific date for the MMO. However, on their website they are still hiring, which could imply that they are still in their infancy.
With this knowledge, we could expect the MMO to be released between late 2023 and mid-2024 for what could be the biggest MMO around due to LoL’s huge fan base and overwhelming support from the community. Chinese company Tencent.
If we want to start from something, we know that the League of Legends universe of Runeterra has a huge amount of lands and cities that could be included in the MMO.
We know from the League of Legends Universe site that there are 13 named regions in the game, all of which could be included in the MMO.
The starting area could be the larger areas of the Universe such as Noxus, Ionia, Demacia, or Piltover that feature in the Arcane TV series.
The game may not provide all of these areas, as some of them are still unknown, such as The Void and Targon.
Here is a list of the 13 Regions:
- City of Bandle
- Bilge waters
- Shadow Isles
- The Freljord
- The void
League of Legends Map
As of this writing, we still don’t know what the MMO’s map will look like.
But if we’re going to do anything, players should probably expect the MMO’s map to be somewhat similar, if not identical, to the current world map.
Every MMO needs classes to make it a good game, and if we have to look at other MMOs such as WoW or FFXIV, there’s usually a good selection of classes you can start with.
This MMO will be spoiled for choice when it comes to classes, if we look at what’s already in League of Legends we can see what exactly could be included
Here are some classes in League of Legends right now:
- To burst
- battle mage
What content can we expect from the League of Legends MMO?
Well, an MMO isn’t an MMO without dungeons and raids, which I’m sure we can expect to see once the game is released.
As far as raids or dungeons we can expect, I imagine we might see several League of Legends monsters from Summoner’s Rift, such as Baron Nashor or several of the dragons.
They could even include monsters from the removed game mode of Vilemaw a giant spider from Twisted Treeline that would delve into a storyline around the Shadow Isles region, which could also include multiple champions as potential bosses such as Viego, Elise and Mordekaiser.
